Reverend John S. Pope Jr., Pastor

Pastor  John S. Pope is a native of North Carolina and is the third child of the late John and Ella Pope.  After 30 years of faithful service in the United  States Air Force, he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant.  The Lord directed Pastor Pope and his family to San Angelo in 2006 and afforded him the privilege of serving four years as the Assistant to the Pastor at New Light Baptist Church.  In November 2010,  Galilee Missionary Baptist Church called Pastor Pope to his present position.

Following years of service in a variety of church staff, servant/leadership positions, Pastor Pope was licensed to preach in 1996 and ordained in 2003. The Lord has graciously opened up doors that allowed him to pastor in the United Kingdom, teach and preach the Word of God in Hawaii, Iceland, Greece, and a host of cities throughout the continental United States.

Although completing a number of courses in evangelism, prison ministry, discipleship training, Christian education and theology, Pastor  Pope received his Theology and Pastoral Counseling degrees from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Pastor  Pope desires to work alongside other ministers that yearn to bring about change in the physical, emotional, and spiritual lives of the people in the community.  In order to bring about that change, Reverend Pope firmly lives by the principle of Romans 1:16

"I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

He and his wife, Gloria, are the proud parents of four sons, Dion, Antonio, Camron and Shaun. The Popes also have six grandchildren.
